2-burner vs 4-burner grill — which is better?
Quick answer
A 2-burner grill is compact, uses less propane, and works well for small households; a 4-burner grill adds cooking area and true multi-zone flexibility for larger meals. Most families are happiest with a 3-burner sweet spot unless you regularly feed crowds or cook side dishes on the grates at the same time.
2-burner grills
Best for balconies, small patios, and 1–4 people. Easier to store, preheat faster, and typically cost less to run.
4-burner grills
Better when you need a dedicated indirect zone plus multiple direct-heat areas. Helpful for mixed menus — steaks on one zone, vegetables on another.
Fuel and cost
More burners do not always mean more propane use — running one or two burners on a large grill can be efficient. Running all four for small meals wastes fuel. See our fuel usage guide for typical burn rates.
