Why is my grill not getting hot enough?
Quick answer
If your grill will not exceed 400–450°F, check for regulator bypass, low fuel, dirty burners, and a lid that does not seal. Grease-choked flavorizer bars and ash buildup also choke heat. After a regulator reset on a full tank, inspect burners — uneven blue flames mean cleaning or replacement is due.
Expected temperatures
Most gas grills hit 500–550°F at grate level on high with lid closed. Infrared or sear stations run hotter. If you cannot reach normal preheat in 10–15 minutes, something is limiting gas or airflow.
Performance maintenance
Scrape flavorizer bars, vacuum the firebox, and verify the chimney vents are open. Replace warped lids or missing gaskets on older units.
